Submitting Camera-Ready Artwork for Your Bag Tags

You may prepare your own electronic artwork for tags and submit it to us as
camera-ready artwork. You must submit art exactly to our specifications,
preferably using one of our templates.

Please note that all camera-ready artwork is subject to review by our art and
production departments. We will notify you if your artwork needs to be adjusted
and advise you of the cost of making the adjustments.

Naturally, we are eager to accept your camera-ready files. That said, here are
some reasons why we might need to adjust artwork:

  •  Guidelines for bleeds and die lines were not followed.
  • The resolution or quality of the supplied artwork is not good enough to ensure
a quality product to our standards. Put another way, we think you will reject
the final product because of artwork quality issues.
  • We are unable to process the artwork on our equipment due to complexity of
    the files or corrupted files.
  • The artwork makes unauthorized use of copyrighted or trademarked
    materials.

Bag Tags accepts camera-ready artwork ONLY from the following software
programs.
General artwork guidelines and specific guidelines for software
program are listed on the following pages.

  •  Adobe Acrobat PDFs that have been created from Quark, Illustrator, Corel Draw or Photoshop
  • QuarkXpress through version 6
  • Adobe Illustrator through version 10
  • Adobe Photoshop through version 6
  • TIFF or JPEG files that follow our exact file specifications

Bag Tags DOES NOT accept the following files as camera-ready artwork
under any circumstances.
Artwork submitted in these formats will incur a
standard artwork charge:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Acrobat PDF files generated by any of these programs
  • Please note that supplied logos or web graphics are not considered cameraready
    artwork

General Guidelines for All Camera-Ready Artwork
  • Did you use one of our templates?
  • Did you leave space for the tag punch?
  • Are all essential items like logos and text at least 1/4” away from the die lines
    and punch?
  • Do backgrounds bleed all the way to the outer edge of the template to allow
    for bleed and die cutting?
  • Are all colors CMYK? (Never use RGB colors)
  • Are all bitmap graphics (tiffs and jpegs) at 300 dpi at actual size?
  • Is type in Adobe Illustrator, AI, or EPS files converted to outlines?
  • Does your artwork have a border at the edge of the design? Because of the
rounded corners on our tags, and because of a margin of error in die-cutting,
we do NOT accept artwork that uses borders in the design.
  • Is each variable data field in a separate text box?
  • Does your artwork use Adobe Type One fonts? Artwork must NOT use
    TrueType fonts or OpenType fonts.

If you are submitting Acrobat PDF files for reproduction…

  • Delete the die lines on the template BEFORE you create final PDF files.
  • Make sure you have created your files using BagTags Acrobat Settings (see
    BagTagsAcroSettings.pdf)
  • Make sure each side of each tag is a separate page in the Acrobat file (no
    spreads).
  1. If your tag will have variable data, please submit two sets of Acrobat files:
One with sample data to show the position and style of your variable
data fields. Size your text to fit the longest entry that will occur in each
field. In other words, choose a long name for your sample.
  2. One with the variable data fields blank (no entries).

If you are submitting QuarkXpress files for reproduction…

  • Use the supplied Bag Tags template.
  • Convert all spot colors to CMYK process colors. Do not use RGB or Pantone
    colors.
  • When submitting the order, collect the job for output to include all graphics
    files and fonts.
  • Each side of each tag must be on a separate document page.
  • We do not accept TrueType or OpenType fonts.

If you are submitting Adobe Illustrator files for reproduction…

  • Use the supplied Bag Tags template.
  • Make sure your document color mode is CMYK.
  • Avoid bitmap special effects such as drop shadows. (When in doubt, create
graphics in Photoshop, and place them in Illustrator, or create the entire tag in
    Photoshop.)
  • If you choose to use bitmap graphics in your Illustrator files, make sure you
either embed the bitmaps in Illustrator or supply linked bitmaps as separate
    files.
  • Convert all spot colors to CMYK process colors.
  • Convert all text to outlines.
  • All strokes must be at least 3/10th point thick.
  • Each side of each unique tag must be in a separate Illustrator file.

If you are submitting Adobe Photoshop files for reproduction…

  • Use the supplied Bag Tags template..
  • Rasterize all text layers.
  • Delete the die line before you flatten your Photoshop file, if you choose to
    flatten it.
  • Make sure your files are 300 dpi at final size.
  • Make sure the file is in CMYK color mode.
  • Each side of each unique tag must be in a separate Photoshop file. (Or you
may submit each tag side as an LZW-compressed TIFF file. If you do this,
delete the die lines before creating the TIFF files.)

If you are submitting TIFFs or JPEGs files for reproduction…

  • Use a supplied Bag Tags template to create your artwork so it will be the
    correct size.
  • Delete the die line before you create your TIFFs or JPEGs.
  • Make sure your files are 300 dpi at final size.
  • Make sure the file is in CMYK color mode.
  • Use LZW compression when creating TIFFs. Do not create layered TIFFs.
  • Use medium compression/medium quality for JPEGs if file size is a concern.
